Why has it taken me this long to try a bag making kit?
I’m a bit surprised – after all these years of sewing bags – that this is this first kit I’ve made. It saves so much time because you don’t need to gather all the materials yourself. Admittedly I purchased this Easy Peasy Purse kit because I just love the fabrics!

To start with, I want to let you know that unfortunately U-Handbag (the designer who sold the Easy Peasy Purse pattern & kit) doesn’t trade anymore. So you won’t be able to purchase this particular kit but there’s lots of bag pattern designers who do their own (like Sallie Tomato and Klum House). Try and find someone local as shipping & import costs can be expensive.

There are certainly a lot of positives when it comes to bag making kits. First; they usually contain most of the materials and hardware needed. Some kits, like this one, might ask you to supply your own fabric glue or sewing thread. But it still saves a huge amount of time compared to gathering all your own materials.

Money saving (should be) another feature of a Bagmaking kit. Most bag hardware/fabric suppliers want you to purchase items in bulk so might not offer small quantities. For example you need 4 rivets for a bag but can only buy in quantities of 50 or 100. I’ve found suppliers who sell items individually but usually at a higher price.

Something I like about this Easy Peasy Purse kit is it includes a pattern. So you can make this purse as many times as you want. Maybe that’s standard? Either way I love that I can make this purse again.

Probably a downside to some bag making kits is the lack of choice available. Most may only offer a couple of different fabrics or colours. It might be hard to find one where you love everything that’s included.

Luckily this wasn’t the case with me. I love everything about this kit – in particular the fabrics! Another downside is you can’t always purchase extra materials if you want more for another project. I would love to buy more of this lining fabric but can’t.

The Easy Peasy Purse pattern was designed with newbies in mind. I would probably tweak that to confident beginners. Mainly because of the kiss lock frame and it’s construction. I’ve had some experience using them in the past (Zahra’s Wedding Bag & My Wedding Bag) and I was still cautious.

Final result; Wow! My Easy Peasy Purse is so adorable. I can’t believe it’s taken this long to try a bag kit! I’ll certainly be paying closer attention in the future – looking for little gems like this!
