Heidi Foldover Clutch

Sometimes you need one of each size

As the end of the year gets closer (I can’t quite believe it either) I’m in my usual rush to finish off Christmas presents. I always start my projects early but can’t quite seem to have them all finished before December starts. I can’t wait to show you all what I’ve been making this year. So today I thought it would be the perfect time to introduce you all to my Heidi Foldover Clutch.

I’ve actually written about the Heidi before. It wasn’t that long ago, (mid 2020) but it does feel like it was ages ago. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels like the last 2 years have been running in slow motion. The last time I made the smaller of the two Heidi’s – the wristlet version. This time I did decided to give the larger Heidi Foldover Clutch a try.

The Heidi Foldover Clutch is a free pattern by Swoon. It’s always worth giving a designer’s free patterns ago. Each designer makes their patterns in their own style. Some like to write very detailed instructions, whilst other’s fewer. Photos vs drawings – you might prefer photos? I really love how Swoon make their patterns. Particularly now that I’ve got the skills to attempt them all!

The Heidi Foldover Clutch and Wristlet are constructed in the same way. I won’t bore you with the same details I wrote last time. (Click here for my post on the Heidi Folderover Wristlet). But this time I did make some modifications to the pattern.  First I decided to try the contrasting trim in a Sparkly Marine Vinyl (now that I’ve got my HD9). I also decided to add a few slip pockets on the inside – you can never have too many pockets! And another thing I decided to do was to make a matching wrist strap/bag strap. This way I can use my Heidi as a shoulder bag, clutch or wristlet.

I’m really happy with the end result! My Heidi Foldover Clutch is large enough to fit all of my essentials, as well as all the extra things Spence gives me. I’m also glad I added the extra interior slip pockets. They’re so useful. Another thing I’m chuffed about is my pattern matching. It’s not perfect by any stretch but at least I managed to lined up the vertical pattern quite well. This also ended up being a Sewing Circle project. It was a request by a member and one I was happy to oblige!
