What a year so far…
Well, we’ve reach the midway point of 2020 and what a year it’s been so far! No one could have possibly predicted the events of the last 6 months around the world. It makes you wonder what the next 6 months will bring. I don’t even want to guess… In my own personal world, I’ve found myself drifting a bit lately. So I thought the best thing to do would be to revisit my goals. Makes it the perfect time for my 2020 update!
I have a confession to make. After reading through my goals from the start of the year, I realise I haven’t been working towards achieving any of them. And some of the patterns I was going to make have been completely forgotten! So I think it’s definitely a good time to review my goals and update my pattern/project to do list.
At the beginning of the year I had a range of different sewing projects that I wanted to make but this list has changed a bit since then. Mainly because I purchased some new patterns and I really want to make some of these first. One of them is Noodlehead’s latest pattern the Buckthorn Backpack & Tote. I’ve already made a start on the backpack. So excited about this pattern! I also still have the Fika Tote and the Range Backpack on the list but I don’t know if I’ll get around to them this year.
Some more new patterns (well new for me) is The Portsmith and The Maywood totes by Klum House. I’m still waiting for some supplies for these. I’ve also made a start on the Brooklyn Traveler and Handbag by Swoon Patterns. Since I’m making matching bags I’m going to attempt to make these simultaneously to save time. Hopefully that’s not a mistake!
One of the big goals that I set for myself was to start making more of my own clothes. This has been one that I’ve been focusing on a lot. I’ve finished a few patterns including BurdaStyle’s Thai Fishermen’s pants and Purl Soho’s Wool Wrap Skirt. And this week I started making ithinksew’s Shiloh Blouse! Hopefully my measurements right this time. It’s something I still struggle with. Another pattern on the to do list is Merchant and Mills’ Factory Dress. I’ve got some light denim fabric that I think will be perfect – so it’s just a matter of finding the time with all my other projects!
In regards to my website and social media accounts, I think I’ve been trekking quite well. I certainly try my best to keep you all regularly informed about what I’ve been up to. And I think I’m doing better at it than I was last year. I’ve also managed to get one new tutorial posted – Handmade Hankies. But I still have quite a few in the pipeline that I’d like to get finished for you. And I know, I’m quite behind in a few other goals as well. Such as working on my Etsy store and releasing my first bag pattern. I promised I’ll try and focus a bit more on these goals in the next few months.
What’s next? Well, I know it’s early but I have to start thinking about what Christmas presents I’ll be making this year. It feels very wrong just mentioning the C word in July. I’m also hoping to show you all my lovely Shiloh Blouse for my next post – Yay! My Brooklyn bags have been started so they are bound to keep me very busy. Who know’s what the next 6 months will bring. Keep being creative and remember that we’re all in this together!
