Butcher’s Apron

It’s time to get cooking!

So this week I want to show you the butcher’s apron I made my mum for Christmas. Admittedly this present wasn’t planned but came about whilst we were shopping at Spotlight. As we were waiting in line she found the fabric and said it would make a lovely apron. So I purchased the fabric and went on the hunt for an apron pattern. The one I eventually settled on is the Butcher’s Apron from ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’ book. I never saw the TV series but a friend recommended it to me. It has a great range of patterns and I’m hoping to try out another one soon!

This pattern is easy to follow and the book has lots of information on sewing techniques. It’s difficulty rating is easy so it’s a good beginner project. I did skip some of the instructions – like the tacking – as I felt confident enough to just sew the pocket and bias binding without it. Also because it’s a butcher’s apron it’s quite a large size so you might need to make some adjustments to make it the right size for you. What I love about this apron is the inclusion of a pocket. I always think pockets are very handy.

I’ve made this apron out of a nice drill canvas fabric called “Vintage Scenery” and the colour is called ‘coffee’ – makes sense! The bias binding is made out of denim. I think they compliment each other well.

Overall I really love this apron. I think the fabric is a great choice for the kitchen. It will also hide some of the cooking stains all aprons eventually accumulate. The most important thing is mum loved it!
