Unique gifts for the family

I can’t believe we are at the beginning of February and I still haven’t told you about the lovely gifts that I made last Christmas. So for the next few posts I’m going to show you all the various presents that I made for my family. The first one I want to tell you about is for the newest member of our family, my nephew Eddie. He’ll be turning one this year and he’s such a joy! So when it came to ideas for his present there were a great variety of patterns. In the end I settled on a free tutorial for the cutest bandana bibs, which I found on Pinterest.

The bandana bib tutorial can be found on a website called See Kate Sew. It’s a lovely sewing website made by Kate (as the name implies). It’s well worth checking out because she’s got a great variety of free tutorials and patterns. But once I saw these bandana bibs I knew they would be functional as well as adorable. I just had to give them a go!

The tutorial is very easy to follow with clear instructions and plenty of photos. It is definitely a great project for a beginner. Or maybe if you are after a project that can be finished in an afternoon? It also requires a small list of materials that most people will have in their sewing rooms, such as snaps or Velcro. I ended up making a few with snaps and the others with Velcro. Since I’m not a mother I wasn’t sure which would be easier to use so I made both. You also need to have at least one of your fabrics as an absorbent material such as towelling. For my second fabric I used a cotton fabric called ‘Whale of a Time Ocean Whales’ in Navy that I picked up from Spotlight. I think it’s just so cute for a baby boy!

I’m just so happy with how these bandana bibs turned out! This is a great free tutorial for those of you with young ones. I can’t tell you first hand how practical they are but they are definitely super cute! I’m sure they will look a treat on Eddie!
