Forage Bag

New Patterns…

So a few weeks ago Noodlehead (Anna Graham) released a couple of new bag patterns. Since she is one of my favourite sewing bloggers, and I love her patterns, I was very excited! One of the patterns she released was the Forage Bag which is available for free through the Robert Kaufman website. Of course I had to download it straight away and got sewing.

This pattern is quite easy to follow and has plenty of pictures to help you along the way. Anna has made it at a level for beginner sewers and I think this is definitely a good project to try if you are a newbie to sewing. The only thing you might find a bit of a challenge is the main zip closure and attaching the bias binding.

Bias binding can be daunting for beginners (I know it was for me!) but Anna has given very clear instructions in the pattern for making your own. I use a bias tape maker which makes the process really easy. Of course you can always purchase it pre-made from your local sewing store but I do recommend making your own. It’s a very handy skill to have particularly if you want to get into quilting.

The Forage Bag pattern comes in two different sizes – always a plus – and I’ve made the larger one. It’s still quite small for me but I seem to carry half my life around in my bag! It’s large enough to fit my wallet and phone a few extra bits and pieces. The interior slip pocket is a great addition (large size only) but I’ve decided to omit dividing it into two and just kept it as one large pocket. As you can see I’ve also decided to change the attachment of the strap. I’ve just used a couple of rivets to attach the strap instead of knotting the ends. This means that my strap was longer than I needed so I also added a strap slider to make it adjustable.

I love this bag. It’s very functional and stylish. Anna’s also made it completely free to download which is always great! I’ve also purchased her new Fika Tote pattern which I can’t wait to start making!

    1. Hi Laurie, I’m so sorry I’ve only just seen your comment. Do you still need help with the pattern? Which step is causing you trouble?
